Chukar Partridge (Alectoris chukar)

Chukar Partridge

Chukar Partridge – (Order) Galliformes > (Family) Phasianidae > (Genus) Alectoris > (Species) chukar)  is a high mountain ground feeding pheasant easily identifiable by its black necklace starting with forehead going on the way to the throat. Like other birds in this family this also faces the threat of hunting.  On June 2022, during our weeklong tour of Spiti Valley, we were driving from Mudd village, Pin Valley National Park, Himachal Pradesh to Dhanker as sun was going down behind the snow capped mountains. Suddenly saw 3 birds walking on the road. Stopped the car and could snap all three of them. One went down the hill, another climbed up on the hill while third kept walking on the road on a fast space. The one on the hill stayed there for some time and allowed us to watch it for several minutes. A great lifer on a great place. Driver said he saw these 3 birds around that area in the past. Sadly another car came honking down and made them run away not before I took some more snaps.
