Brown Parrotbill (Cholornis unicolor)

Brown Parrotbill

Brown Parrotbill (Passeriformes > Paradoxornithidae > Cholornis > unicolor) is a large Parrotbill we find in Himalaya and nearby regions in India. It is monotype (no subspecies). It’s categorized as Least Concern. Brown coloration, blackish supercilium, pale yellow bill helps to identify this easily on the field.  I saw it first time in Gauribas in Singalila NP on March 2021. I will never forget that scene of watching it flying liker a glider from a nearby hill and then perch on bamboo shoots right in front of us. Saw a few more times there in next few days. Next encounter happened on August 2021 in Senchal forest. I made a mistake of not taking pictures of it as I was in unsuccessful search of Great Parrotbill. Corrected the same on a return trip there in June 2022 when I saw 2 adults feeding a juvenile. ebird says it’s breeding time is June to August but this time it seems it bred in May or earlier. It’s a brave bird and I found it to be not too much worried in human proximity as I could watch it for long as it slowly moved through bamboo forests next to the road.
